Magnecord 748-4 Vintage Reel Tape Recorder 2 Channel Tube Preamp Powers On

Complete vintage Magnecord reel to reel in nice condition. This particular unit is a model 748-4. Manuals and information can be found online, but chances are if you’re looking at this with any amount of serious interest, you already know what it is, how difficult it is to find in this condition, and what you want to do with it. The tube preamps in these are pretty highly sought after for having a nice tube sound and having very high gain. This unit is all original and was rescued from a storage unit. I have not gone through it, I have not done any servicing. It likely needs new caps at the very least. It powers on just fine, and that’s as much as I can do with it (I don’t have tapes and don’t really know how to use these). It powered up just fine, no smoke or smells. It’s extremely clean and was stored in favorable environmental conditions. There’s no rust or corrosion, and no real condition issues worth noting outside of normal typical surface wear. This thing is cosmetically really nice. This is not a turnkey piece of equipment. This is akin to a barn find muscle car in extremely clean condition that hasn’t been on the road in 60 years and needs all the typical things to get it running and driving again. All knobs turn, all buttons push down and stay down on first push and pop back up on second push. The counter counts forward and resets. It does not count backward on rewind. That might be normal, but I’m not sure. THE COVER THAT POPS OFF IN PICTURE 5, 6 AND 7 HAS ONE OF THE FEMALE SLEEVES SORT OF STRETCHED OUT AS SHOWN.
