REEL-TO-REEL 1/2 TRACK 2 SPEED TAPE RECORDER WAS MADE IN. 1958: Sm 4 (Fi Cord 1A in England). IN THE BOX IT HAS 6-558 THAT COULD BE SERIAL NUMBER, THE DATE IS THE 16 MAY 1958, THE BADGE ON THE BOX IS FICORD FIDELITY RECORDING, AND IT WAS MADE IN. UNDER LICENCE FROM QUELLET-STELLAVOX SWITZERZERLAND. The batteries that fitted this recorder are no longer made, but I found that with a little modification to some AAA battery boxes, and some new belts, I could run the recorder, and it played the tape. I have spent too much time on this item so if there is someone out there that would like to finish the job and change come capacitors, find a small belt, then have a very good working recorder. Or it would be one for the collectors. On the left of the top deck is a speed change switch, the low speed is not working as it needs a small flat belt, the jack socket above it is a 3 mm. In the middle of the recorder are the heads, by rotating the wheel behind the heads away from you it engages the pinch wheel on to the capstan and when switched to play or record the tape will run. On the right hand side of the deck there is a speaker under the spool holder and the arm indicates the amount of tape you have left, the push button that has a slide lock over it, switches off the speaker. On the right hand end you have the play, off or record knob, record indicator, and 4 pin microphone input socket, 3 mm headphone jack socket, level control and a tape left indicator. The shoulder strap is in good working order and original. With a working but not original microphone. I have added a microphone lead to 1/4 jack so you can use the microphone on other equipment, but the on/off switch will not work with this lead. I have not changed the 3 mm jack sockets to the now normal 3.5 mm jack sockets as it would then not be original.
