Vintage 60's Sony TC-250A Reel 2 Reel Tape Deck Fully Serviced Very Nice
Vintage Sony TC-250A Stereo Tape Deck. I’ve restored about 15 of these over the last 8 years or so. These take me back to my 1975 Superscope days, where I cut my teeth on audio servicing. Always liked these for their natural sound. Not tremendous specs, just a simple sweet sound. This deck has those hard to find reel holders! This unit has seen good care and the head is in good condition. Plays perfectly and makes the classic recording these are known for, recording noticeably lower on playback. If you like the vintage transistor sound, this is for you. Early 60’s silicon transistors. The harmonics give it that natural, musical sound. I personally have a near perfect TC-260 I’ve been keeping back for my own use. Play my old jazz tapes ya’kno. COPY of original owner’s manual. Service: I had to tear everything down and remove each moving part for a cleaning and re-lube. All the sliders, pivots and bearing got treated. First deck ever I had to replace the flywheel and bearing. So now everything operates smoothly. The idlers are in good shape and received my special treatment. I adjusted the brakes. As always, I replaced the motor phase/start capacitor. I oiled the motor bearings. I cleaned and verified the tape path. I then went thru the electronic alignment and it only needed a few tweaks. Had to replace the power cord. You’ll be pleased with the performance. Cosmetics: Pretty sharp looking for one of these. Only a few light scratches. The wood cabinet is in good condition. Be sure to look over the pics. Double pack prepped box at 24 lbs. S/N: 182755 MyTag: 19046495.
