Sony TC-755 Three Head Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder – Serviced, Repaired, Working! The Sony TC-755 Three Head Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder, featuring. An AC servo controlled capstan drive motor, dual capstan closed-loop tape drive, three motors, 10.5 reel capacity, logic controlled function buttons and tape equalisation and bias selectors. Sony TC-755 Playback Demo. This TC-755 is in very good condition, having lived in an audiophile collector’s collection before my acquisition. Cosmetically, there are the three veneer chips on the top-left side, a chip on the rear-left, and the F&F (Ferrite & Ferrite) badge on the front of the head cover is missing. There are some light scratches from reel wear on the front but they are only hairline. The work included a mechanical service, motor power and torque drive circuit capacitor repair, as well as cleaning and lubrication. The pinch roller and capstan belt were also replaced. Unfortunately, some weeks after the deck was repaired, it began to experience an issue with the muting circuit that seems to be common to this model. After playing for anywhere from a ten seconds to one minute, the sound abruptly cut out. The reels continued to turn, but there was no sound output and the VU meters did not register anything. I have had this issue repaired. In addition to the muting circuit issue, this TC-755 has minor brake issue that cannot be repaired due to lack of parts. As you can imagine, finding a small part (in this case, I believe it’s a brake band) for an over forty-year-old piece of Japanese machinery is not easy. The brake issue occurs when coming out of Fast Forward. There is some slippage and the source reel has some slack after the Stop button is pressed. This is easily remedied by giving the reel a half-turn until the slack is taken up. This issue only occurs in Fast Forward, not Play or Rewind, and as I just mentioned it is in my opinion a minor inconvenience. Demo video of the slippage below. Sony TC-755 Brake Slippage. After all of the repairs, this TC-755 is now restored and ready to go. This is a solid piece of machinery, and will make an excellent addition to your HiFi set-up. Unfortunately, there are some not-so-honest people out there that claim additional damage, flaws, etc. For this reason, all items I sell are now as-is. Thank you for your understanding. Recently, courier companies UPS, etc. Have changed their rules for what they will and will not insure. The types of items not available for coverage include items deemed’used’ and/or’fragile’, both of which describe this item. I want to insure, but for the previously described reason, it’s pointless or not possible. But what if the parcel is lost? That’s one trick couriers pull. I cannot respond to them that way.
