Watch the demonstration on YouTube. Rare opportunity for this collectible. AKAI GX-747dbx Stereo Reel to Reel Tape Recorder, 4-Track, With Original Owner’s Manual. No Reels or tapes are included. The hubs adapters are included though. There is provision inside (access from the back) for different main voltages, from 110V – 240V. It’s set at 120V now. I mounted reels for some testing. Here are what I found. It powers up fine, and all operations (Play both directions, FF, RW, Pause, Stop etc) on the front panel appear to be fine. When in PLAY to the right, I think the LEFT channel is slightly stronger than the RIGHT. When play to the LEFT, the music is not as clear. Also, there are some kind of “beat” like noise. So, it may need some adjustment. The Signal Strength display works fine; consistent with music heard through output. The Counter always display 0:00.00. I don’t know how to make that work. I haven’t cleaned or demagnetized the heads. Also, sometimes the tension arms move up and down automatically, even after I pressed STOP. So, my conclusion is, this recorder functions OK at the basic level. However, it needs service to correct the issues mentioned above. At the same time, I don’t have its service history. Since this recorder is pretty old, it’s strongly recommended to be serviced by a professional before daily use. The recorder is in real great cosmetic condition. For a deck of this age, the physical condition is beautiful. I can only find light wear/scratches. This recorder is a great and worthy candidate for restoration. Sale includes the recorder, Owner’s Manual, and hubs only; No reels, or any other accessories. I have other audio equipment, like.
