Otari MX5050 MKIII-8 Multi-track Analog Tape Recorder. This was my studio workhorse in the 1990s. A noticeable step-up in sound and quality from the previous Tascams I’d used. Great for achieving that classic, fat analog tone. Often used it to record drums and bass even after going to digital. Built like a rock. The electronics and internal components worked fine when I retired it. The external hardware parts started to fail. Will need some work and TLC. Most noticeably: heads, pinch roller, and headphone knob need to be replaced. Take-up reel arm either needs replacement or a new bearing. 8 tracks, 1/2 at 15ips or 7ips (selectable), variable speed control (this was fun to play with – especially when creating sound design for film). Here is a link to a fantastic in-depth look at this exact Otari model from Fran Blanche’s YT channel. All are included with the machine. Please let me know immediately if you are not 100% satisfied!
